Tutoring By Appointment

Tutoring by appointment is free, one-to-one (tutor-to-student) academic support that any KU Lawrence Campus, KU Edwards Campus, or Haskell Exchange Student can schedule at any point of the semester for supported courses. All individual tutoring appointments are 50 minutes and can be held either in-person at the Wingspan (4th floor of Anschutz Library) or virtually over Zoom. The only scheduling limit in place is one appointment per day.

Jayhawk GPS (Navigate) is our primary scheduling platform for all tutoring appointments. Check out the following video that shows how to schedule appointments: Navigate Scheduling Instructions Video. Alternatively, use the following directions:

  1. You can use the Jayhawk GPS (Navigate) website at jayhawkgps.ku.edu or the phone app. Go to the website or app and log in with your KU single sign-on. On the app, click “+” (the plus sign) on the top right of the page and then “Schedule Appointment.” On the website’s home page, click “Drop-in or Schedule Appointment.”

  2. For the “What type of appointment are you interested in? (i.e., Advising or Other Support)” dropdown, click “Center for Learning and Writing Support.”

  3. For the “Which of the following topics best describes your need?” dropdown, select "Tutoring."

  4. Pick the date you want to meet.

  5. Choose the class you want support in. Note that only classes you are enrolled in that we also offer support in will be shown. If a course you are enrolled in does not appear, we do not have current support in place. You may email learning@ku.edu to ask whether we may be able to meet a need for any unlisted courses.

  6. Available dates and times will pop up. Click on the date/time you want. You may also toggle between tutors by clicking on the initials above the time options if you want to work with a specific person.

  7. Choose the type of appointment you want under “How would you like to meet?” (In-Person [4th floor of Anschutz Library] or Virtual [over Zoom]).

  8. In the "Would you like to share anything else?" area, please provide specific details on the topics you are looking for support with in order to help your tutor prepare.

  9. Check the "Email Reminder" or "Test Message Reminder" if you would like these types of appointment reminders, and then press the "Schedule" button to confirm your appointment. You will receive a confirmation email with the date, time, and location (including a Zoom link if you chose to meet virtually).

Yes! Students are welcome to bring a friend with them to their tutoring appointment if they are interested. "Bring Your Own Buddy" or BYOB tutoring is the initiative replacing what formerly was small group tutoring.

Students should schedule their appointment time as normal and bring their friend with them to the appointment location. If possible, please make a note in the comments of your appointment request that you will be bringing a friend. Please note- we are limiting this opportunity to only 2 students per appointment.

Yes! Students are encouraged to stop by the Wingspan main office space in Anschutz Library, Room 424 to inquire about available tutors. If a tutor is available you can meet with them and if there is nobody available our team will help you make an appointment.

Additionally, Drop-In Tutoring is available in a variety of math, physics, and chemistry courses Monday - Thursday from 3:00 - 5:00 PM located in Anschutz Library, Study Room 435. Click here to learn more about Drop-In Tutoring
