What Criteria is Used to Select Courses for SI?

The following criteria are used to determine the priority in which courses receive SI, supported by the Wingspan: Center for Learning and Writing Support:

1. Courses with high rates of D (or F) grades and withdrawals (“DFW rates”) are often prioritized.

2. Courses with a moderate to large enrollment (often 100+ students)

3. Gateway courses (prerequisites for future courses) that are critical to degree progress.

4. Courses identified by faculty or advisors as particularly challenging for students.

If you are interested in having SI support for your class, but your course does not fall into this criteria, please reach out to the supplemental@ku.edu to discuss whether support could be offered.
